🔢 Number Bonds to 10!

This term in Reception, we’ve been working hard on our number bonds to 10 – a key maths skill as we get ready for Year 1!

To help us remember which numbers go together to make 10, we’ve been playing simple games at the start of our maths lessons. We’ve used our fingers and Numicon to find number pairs like 6 + 4, 2 + 8 and 5 + 5. The children have really enjoyed spotting the combinations and showing their answers in different ways.

Here’s a game you can try at home over the summer:

✋ Finger Flash!
Hold up a number of fingers (e.g. 3) and ask your child, “How many more to make 10?” They can then show the answer using their own fingers. You can switch roles too – it’s a quick and easy way to keep number bonds fresh!
