Double Trouble? Not for Team Piper!

Diving into Doubles with Team Piper!

Today in maths, Team Piper explored Step 6: Play with and Build Doubles. We had a fantastic time learning all about what it means to double a number, using counters, pictures, and our voices to help us understand and explain.

We were learning to:

  • Find and make doubles

  • Say what number has been doubled

  • Show doubles using objects or pictures

  • Remember our double facts

  • Understand that doubles make even numbers

We used oracy to share our thinking clearly. Some of the brilliant sentences we used were:
🔴 “Double is when you have the same number two times.”
🔴 “I can see 3 counters and 3 more counters.”
🔴 “I can see altogether 6.”
🔴 “This is double 3, it makes 6.”

We also thought carefully about our key questions:
❓ What is a double?
❓ What is double 2? Double 4? Double 5?

It was wonderful to see the children so engaged, using mathematical language and showing their understanding with counters and drawings. Well done, Team Piper – you were amazing today! 🌟
