Daily challenges: Friday 15th May

Good morning Team Spurrier!

We have made it to Friday, we hope you had a great week! We know it can be tough doing your learning from home and we are so proud of everything you have achieved at home. We want to remind you all that play is such an important part of your development and you can learn so much when you play. It's been great to see so many of you enjoying time with your brothers or sisters (I'm sure there's been tough times too!), baking with your grown ups and helping out around the home (and garden). We think about you all every day and we hope you are safe and well.

Thank you to those of you who have sent their rainbow photos so far. Remember it is a picture of you (in your school uniform) holding a rainbow. we will put them together and make our class photo for the year and remember the times we did have together. Please can I have these by today by email or on the Padlet. Spread the news to everyone as I don't want anyone to miss out.

 Maths:

Counting/Starter: Counting  how many times you can write the word Friday in 30 seconds.

Earlier on this term we explored finding half of an amount. We know finding half is finding 2 equal parts. We have found half using a quantity. Can you find half of a shape?

Firstly get a piece of paper and see if you can fold it into two equal parts. There is more than one way of doing this. Check that both parts are equal!

Challenge: Can you find half of the shapes attached? (See attachment)

Extension: Can you build a shape with construction blocks and then break it in half. Are both sides the same? How do you know?

Friday Fun day:

Theme: Ball Skills- Lesson 2Re-cap

what different balls can you think of? What sports use different balls? E.g. basketball uses a hard, large bouncy ball. Tennis uses a small, furry ball. Etc. Can you make a list of all the different sports you can think of? Do you have any balls around the house or In the garden? Find them for us and take a picture for the Padlet. You may also find some fruit. challenge question: What 3D shape is a ball?

Warm up: Make sure you warm up first. Why do we warm up? What happens to our bodies when we warm up? Why Is it important? Children all know the answers to this: We need to warm up our bodies so that we don’t hurt ourselves. Our muscles are like a piece of plasticine, playdough or blu tac. When it is cold, it is stiff and hard to move but when warm it becomes stretchy and elasticated. Also, when we warm up our heart beats faster (can you feel it?) and therefore more blood pumps around our bodies.

20x running

20x star jumps

20x jumps

20x frog jumps

Run around the garden

Head rolls

Arm stretch

Rocket stretch (the children know)

Roll the shoulders back and then forwards

Hula hoop with the hips (big circles)

Bend and clap

Warm up the ankles by shaking and circles.

Shaking hands and feet in counts of 8.

Challenge: Last time we explored rolling. Can you remember how do this accurately?

Today we are going to explore throwing. How do we throw? Start by sitting on the floor with a ball of your choice. Hold it with two hands at chest height, with your hands either side of the ball . Make sure you are looking at your partner and push out from your chest. When catching have two hands out ready (about the width of the ball) and pull into your chest. How many times can you throw accurately to your partner?

Super challenge: Can you throw the ball?

How far can you make it go?

How can you make it go further?

How many different ways can you throw it?

What's the difference between rolling and throwing?

How can you make sure the ball gets to the target? Can you throw it against a wall or into a hoop?

Cool down: Stretch out the body, maybe do some yoga or meditation to finish off. Check your heart rate has gone back to normal and you feel good.
