Good Morning! I hope you are healthy and happy. Have a great day!

Maths:

This week we have been learning about geometry and we have looked at 2D and 3D shapes. If you look around you, you will notice that shapes are everywhere! And they are particularly important when creating patterns that repeat.

Thinking time – tell your grown up what “repeat” means!

You will often see repeating patterns on buildings and fabrics. You know it is a repeating pattern if the same shapes and colours are repeated in the same order.

First try the sheet Repeating patterns shapes and colour. You need to continue the patterns. Be careful – they are not all as easy as they seem!

Next we are going to learn a new word: tessellation

Tessellation is when shapes fit together exactly with no gaps like this.

Can you spot the repeating shapes?

Tessellation is common all around us Watch this video to see how many different examples you can spot:

Now have a go at the shape patterns tessellation sheet attached. If you fancy an extra challenge can you create your own tessellation pattern!

English  and Read Write Inc. (Just do your groups work. If you normally do RWI you can do the English task as an additional challenge after Speed Sounds)

Mrs Smart’s group

On Tuesday and Wednesday you made a habitat for a pet and yesterday we learnt about how to write instructions and why we use them. Today I’d like you to write a set of instructions on how you created your habitat.

Remember your instructions will need:

  • Title (eg How to make a habitat for a snail)

  • Things you need (list all the things you need for your habitat)

  • Method (use time words and bossy verbs to explain how you put your habitat together)

  • Numbers (so your instructions are in the right order)

Topic

Today I thought you could make your own Five senses sensory stations! See the pictures attached for ideas.

The idea is that you create an interactive and educational area, poster, set of bowls or a box, which has something for each of our five senses. Something to;

  • Touch (with your hands or skin)

  • Smell (with your nose)

  • See (with your eyeballs!)

  • Taste (with your tongue of course)

  • Hear (with your ears)

Try to think back again to Term 1 when we did a sensory activity when I sneakily put different things like curry, garlic, hot chocolate, lemon, salt, sugar etc in bows and you had to taste or smell them to identify what it was. We also did activities that tested our hearing and our sight. Take a look at the photosheet from that science lesson to remind yourself. Enjoy!
