Good Morning Team Smart

Maths:

Count forwards and backwards in steps of 2, 5 and 10. This builds confidence for future knowledge of times tables. Then count back in ones from 20 or 50.

Today we are going to subtract using money. This is a skill important for understanding spending money and receiving change.

  1. Use the money sheet (or real money if you feel it is hygienic enough) to gather together an amount, then decide on a smaller amount to take away (e.g. 10p – 5p =…, 10p – 2p =…).
Use your skills to ‘count back’ to subtract the smaller amount from the larger amount.

There is a sheet attached to have a go at taking away money.  You can perhaps tell with some of the calculations that you only need to cover up or cross off some of the whole coins. But be careful, in other cases you might have to think about ‘breaking’ in to a coin. Your adults will need to help with this. This concept is a little bit of a challenege.

Mrs Smart’s group

Now that we are experts in knowing what different animals need to survive, yesterday we started to think about what Bog Babies need. This week, we are going to compose a Bog Baby fact file so anyone who wants to keep a Bog Baby will know how to look after them properly.

This text will contain information and is known as a non chronological report.

Yesterday you started to write down facts about Bog Babies.

Today we are going to start thinking about how put this information into a fact report.

Let’s look at the features of this type of report:

  • Title (the subject of your report)

  • Introduction (a general overview of what your report file is about)

  • Paragraphs (for each new section about your subject)

  • Subheadings (to explain what is in the paragraph)

  • Fun fact box / Did you Know box (contains fun / unusual facts about your subject)

  • Picture

  • Written in the present tense

With the help of your grown up I’d like you to plan your report using the report template attached.  You can use it to arrange the notes you wrote down yesterday into the right place.

Remember this is just a plan - tomorrow you will start to create your actual Bog Baby report file!

Topic

Today I would love it you made a colourful poster, or flash cards or put all the work that you have created so far into a booklet (unless it’s already in you’re a workbook). At school we call this beautiful work. It is a way for you to put together everything that you have learnt so far in Animals and Us Topic. Here are some clues.

  • Animal groups

  • Pets

  • My environment

  • Minibeasts

  • Plants

  • Trees

  • Human body

  • Senses

Look at the file named ‘Beautiful Work Examples’ attached below for some inspiration. The examples are of one specific part of a topic, I would like your work to features something about each bullet point listed above. A small caption about what you learnt about each one and a beautiful picture/background/collage to jazz it all up.

This is your task for today and tomorrow as it can take a little while to complete. Have fun and be as creative with your presentation as you like (do it on paper, on a computer or make a little video of you talking about what you have learnt and showing your work).
