02/06/2020: Home Learning

Good morning, Team Amin! We have a new class reader!

What a super first day we seemed to have yesterday! Well done to all of you and I hope our week will continue to be as fantastic! We have a new class reader, which some of Team Amin decided on today - The House with a Clock in its Walls. New reader has been uploaded online!

Learning for today:

PE: Find a safe space (Garden? Living room?) and do 10 jumping jacks, 10 squats and 10 bunny hops.

M: Start with a speedy recap of your 5x. You can do this with a dice game if you have dice, bingo, Hit the Button etc.?

We are going revisit rounding again– today, to the nearest 10! I find rounding tricky, but as long as I remember to underline the ones and circle the tens… I should be fine!

Take a look at: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zh8dmp3/articles/zpx2qty

For rounding to the nearest 10, remember:      5 or more = UP   4 or less = DOWN

e.g.  34 =            1) Underline 4   2) Circle 3

                           3) 3 = 3 tens = 30 and my next ten up is 4 tens = 40

BUT underlining the 4 tells me I am going down to the nearest ten so…… 30!

e.g.  168=            1) Underline 8   2) Circle 6

                           3) 6 = 6 tens = 60 and my next ten up is 7 tens = 70

BUT I can’t forget the hundreds SO:  16 tens = 160 and 17 tens which is 170

BUT underlining the 8 tells me I am going up to the nearest ten so…… 170!

PRACTICE: Round to the nearest 10:

  1. 85        b) 32        c) 204         d) 719       e) 2571       f) 3168       g) 4257

E: We are going to do lots of SPAG work over the coming weeks to support with your writing. Today’s SPAG task is all about basic sentence formation – i.e. the correct punctuation! You may have done the first sheet already (choose your star and do the first 5) but it is SO important to always practise the skill of identifying and completing full sentences so I would like you to do the Correct the Sentence Punctuation worksheet first and then, your real challenge! Have a go at the 2 star, page 3 rewrite of Chapter 1 and see if you can add in all of the basic punctuation!

RWInc: Please find the relevant spellings and story text attached below for How to make a Peach Treat with today’s learning task.

T: Today, we are going to think about the things that help us shape our sense of identity. Take a look at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=om3INBWfoxY. This video includes lots of the things that we would and have discussed inside the classroom when talking about identity.

Let’s do a JUNK WRITE. This just means writing all over your page in any direction, size, font! You could even turn your junk write into a piece of art! Take a look at the junk journal examples – you might choose to draw pictures to represent certain things about your identity, or cut out words from newspapers etc. It is up to you!

I want you to write down/show every single word that you can think of that could be used to describe you – think family (Are you a daughter? Niece? Grandson?), qualities (kind, cheeky, independent, shy, naughty etc.), jobs (Dishwasher unloader like Miss Amin?), hobbies, culture, British values etc. We all, of course, have our own identities. We are ourselves, we are unique. But lots of things make you ‘you’. I, for example, would describe myself as teacher, daughter, female, granddaughter, respectful and clumsy, but would also describe myself as British, Indian, student, disorganised and independent and SO much more.

Extra activities:

R: Access one of the class reader Powerpoints if you haven’t already and listen along and/or read a chapter of a book of your choice.

Spelling: Practise this week’s spelling in time to test yourself this Friday!

Help around the house?: Ask your adult if there is anything you can do to make their day better!

Have a lovely day. Happy learning! Don’t forget to send me emails/pictures!
