Talking about Racism

Many of our children will have heard snippets of news regarding the anti racist protests across America and the UK over the past week. If you want to talk about this with your child but are unsure, read this blog and the attached document for support.

Race and racism can often be a difficult subject to tackle for parents and for teachers, we can feel unsure of how to answer the questions, we may feel uneasy and often avoid the challenge.

At RAPS, we feel it both necessary and significant to find the courage to speak to young people about inequality and racism that communities and individuals can face.

For this reason, we have brought together some resources that can help make sense of difficult themes. It contains a parent help guide which includes tips and suggestions when talking to children about racism. There are also various links to websites that support discussions about racism and book recommendations for a range of age groups.
