Friday's topic - 12/6/20

Today we are looking at yet another pioneering black woman who wanted to help make our country a better place...

Olive Morris may be a name that you are not familiar with, and to be honest, is one that I did not know before this week. Watching the clip though, and reading up a bit more about her, reminds me of how far we still need to go to get across the message that we are all people, and we need to treat ALL others with respect and tolerance.

Please click on the link and scroll down to week 1 and watch the video about Olive Morris. Afterwards, you can choose one of the activities on the attachment below or do you own. You do not have to write or draw anything, instead you could just have a chat with a family member about the message behind the video!

Think also on how we view people who come to our country in future... In Olive's case, her parents answered the call from our country when it needed rebuilding after the devastation of the second world war. Her family gave up what they knew to provide their skills, time and effort and in return faced racism. Likewise, Christophe and his family fled for their lives, leaving family, friends and their familiar surroundings behind. They did this because otherwise they faced death. Always remember the people and the stories that are behind all of the people on our little island nation and be welcoming, kind and caring!
