Welcome back to Term 5 at RAPS! What a wonderful start to the term with a visit to our new permanent display on the RAPS staircase titled '420 Hands Taking a Line for a Walk'. We really enjoyed spotting children in pictures and looking at the illustrations...! Today, we also started to explore and learn about equal rights and human rights! Ask us all about it.
What a fabulous end to Term 4 with the KS1 Easter Bonnet Parade! Year 2 had so much fun walking up and down the KS2 corridor and around the playground sharing their stunning creations (and trying to stop them from blowing away)! Happy Easter from all the Year 2 team! We will see you on Monday 20th April after a well-deserved and hopefully sunny Easter break :)
Year 2 have been writing poems inspired by our core text, 'Beegu.' We discussed alliteration, onomatopoeia, rhyme and repetition. Their poems were fantastic! They represented the emotions and events in the story. Today we practised and performed our poems, focusing on using expression and a clear voice. Well done everyone!
Year 2 Theme Day!
This week, we have been learning about significant inventors, including the Wright brothers and Caroline Haslett. Inspired by our learning, we partnered up and designed our own inventions that would make our everyday life easier! From creations that would feed our pets for us to pens that would read our minds and write for us, from robots to do jobs our adults ask us to do to portable machines that give us any snack we need when we are hungry, we had a lot of fun using our imagination to be 'inventors'! Ask us all about it!
In maths, Year 2 have started to explore division! We thought about what the division symbol means and about what division sentences represent – sharing equally! Then, we had a go at working out some division questions with our talk partners using counters and our steps! Grouping is much easier than we thought and we had lots of fun.
Next week, we are going to be planning and writing our very own poems inspired by this term's core text! Today, we discussed features of poetry such as rhyme and rhythm, lines and stanzas and repetition! We explored a range of different poems from writers like Christina Rossetti and even Michael Rosen, listened to some poems and some of us had a go at performing them to the class as well! Ask us all about it!
Attached are the spellings for this week...
Today, we recapped our understanding of what an equal group is, before having a go at making some equal groups ourselves! We were able to represent equal groups using concrete resources and by drawing pictures, including fixing mistakes too! Well done, Year 2!
This week in Year 2, we have been learning about two significant artists, Minnie Evans and Henri Matisse. We explored Minnie Evans’ detailed drawings, noticing the repeating patterns, nature themes, and imaginative designs she used. The children created their own drawings inspired by her style, carefully adding shapes and patterns. We also looked at Henri Matisse, thinking about how his artwork changed over time. Check out our inspired and beautiful responses to our learning!
