Well, next week is the week! We will be taking the children out in small groups to complete their multiplication checks in line with new government assessment procedures.
This weekend is the children's last chance to practise. I suggest that they use this resource as it accurately mimics the test itself:
https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/477/Multiplication-Tables-Check
Go to 'adjust difficulty' and remove the 2, 5, 10 and 11 times tables as these will form only a very small part of the test itself.
This week is our Values week and here in Year 4, we have been looking at identity and belonging. We have thought about how people who are from different minority communities can be unfairly 'scapegoated' for the ills in society. In the exercise on the photograph we thought about ways can be more tolerant towards people who are different to us. We came to the conclusion that education and communication are key!
Please see below for more information:
Please read below for key information for Term 6.
We created some amazing art to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. If you would like to see it, it will be on display in Ramsgate Train Station along with other artwork from the children at RAPS.
Today, we began looking at time. To help our understanding, we created our own analogue clocks. Firstly, we examined how the day is split into two 12 hour blocks, AM and PM.
We began constructing our clocks by splitting the clock face into ‘past’ and ‘to’, adding the hours and then the minutes around the edges. Interestingly, when we get past the half hour mark, the minutes start counting backwards as we get closer to the next hour!
Many of you will have seen the amazing shipwreck that Team Gunson created displayed in the RAPS main entrance area. Miss Marfleet took some amazing pictures of the children throughout the process. Why not check them out below?
This week we are continuing to look at prefixes with a focus on _sub (meaning under or beneath) plus our usual mix of Year 4 spelling words:
submarine, subdivide, submerge, subsoil, subtitle, medicine, special, position, famous, occasion
Please see the attached letter containing important information about the Government Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check.
Today we followed on from our learning about vertebrates and found out about all of the different types of invertebrates. Invertebrates have no spine (backbone). We were able to classify invertebrates as insects, arachnids, echinoderms, annelids, crustaceans, molluscs and protozoa based on their characteristics.
We are excited to announce there will be a talent show on the last day of term! We welcome all talents: singing, dancing, telling jokes, story writing and more! There will be class auditions to decide who will go through to the final which is on the last day of term, Friday 27th May. Our class auditions will be on Tuesday 17th May at lunchtime. If your child would like to audition, they need to be prepared on the day with anything they need e.g name of music track. Please note, there will only be a few children across the school going through to the final at the end of term. Good luck!
