Bikeability

Some of the class took part in Bikeability this week - the scheme run by KCC to train and supervise children in safely riding their bikes. We also had a special surprise when our local police officers came into the school to give those children some bike-related goodies...

On Tuesday, the children undertook Level 1 - demonstrating accurate handling of their bike in an environment free of traffic. This took place in the rear drop-off area of the school and lasted most of the day. For those who successfully navigated this, they were split into two groups and went out onto the local roads - under careful supervision - to develop their awareness of potential dangers and hazards.

The instructors were very impressed with the level of maturity and responsibility demonstrated.

During Friday's Celebration Assembly, two officers from Margate Police station visited to distribute a bike lock, lights, wheel reflector, security marker pen and saddle cover to these children to help keep themselves (and their bikes!) safe.
