Long division

This week in maths the focus has been on factors, multiples and long division...

We reviewed the formal column method for dividing a 4-digit number by a single digit then we moved on to dividing by 2 digit numbers (long division).

We taught the children a number of methods for approaching this tricky operation to allow them to choose the best fit for the questions posed. So by the end of the week everyone was able to use factor pairs, fact boxes and chunking. Why not get them to show you one of the methods at home?

As ever, instant recall of times tables facts underpin all of these methods, so please take time to practise these at home.
