Pie charts in maths

Over the last week and a half, during our maths lessons, we have been looking at how to interpret and answer questions from pie charts. Yesterday, we took it a step further and created our own...

Initially, the children were talked with completing a table of data and, using their knowledge of 360 degrees in a full turn, calculate how many degrees each section of the pie chart needed to be. Using mathematical equipment such as a compass and protractor, the pie chart was then drawn carefully. Not an easy skill by any means, but the children made it seem fairly straightforward!
