Art to Start

For our Art to Start, we looked at the artist Paul Cezanne. Cezanne is a famous artist from a long time ago in the late 19th century. He primarily works using oil paints on canvas. We looked at two of his works ‘In the Woods’ (1898) and ‘Forest’ (1890).  We noticed the way Cezanne has painted the trees, branches, the foliage in the foreground and the canopy. What colours and brushstrokes can they see? Think about how many stories are set in the forest – what sort of language is used to describe the setting, link back to Cezanne’s paintings.

The children used oil pastels to collaboratively create a large forest setting for our display on large sheets of paper.
