24/06/2020: Home Learning

Good morning, Team Amin!

What a HOT day it is going to be today! Please remember to stay hydrated and put on sun cream, sun glasses and a sun hat! I, for one, am going to use the heat for yet another excuse to eat lots of ice cream though. Maybe you could make your own - I've been blending frozen bananas and strawberries with some honey and I basically MAKE ice cream!!

Learning for today:

PE: Find a safe space (Garden? Living room?) and do 10 jumping jacks, 10 squats and 10 bunny hops.

M: Start with a 10 minute practice of your number bonds on Hit the Button! How many can you get right in the time given?

Continuing with the learning site from yesterday, today you are exploring symmetry in patterns: https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-identify-lines-of-symmetry-in-a-pattern/ Again, work your way through the video and today, I would like you to complete the task at the end!

Done: Why not play one of these games online: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Search.aspx?q=symmetry

Question: How are we finding using the site? Is it easy to navigate? Are you finding it useful?

E: Listen to the next chapters of Varjak Paw if you haven’t caught up already. I have added some!

TASK: Let’s plan our letter to Varjak Paw’s author, S.F. Said today! Things to consider:

Addressee’s address: Find out the address of the publishing house for the book. Helpful hint: Go online and find a copy of Varjak on Google Books or Amazon. In the opening pages (usually in very small handwriting), you can find the address of the publishing house for the book! This is where you would send your letter if you were writing a letter to the author.

Your address: Home? School?

Addressee name

Date

Paragraph 1: Reason for writing and who you are! You need to introduce yourself and tell the author a little bit about you (name, age, school, favourite reading genre?)

Paragraph 2: What have you liked/disliked about this book? Why? Would you recommend the book? Why?

Paragraph 3: What will you do next? Read the sequel? Read another text by the same author? Look for an alternative book? Buy a cat? WHY?

Ending and sign off (Yours sincerely or yours faithfully? Find out which one is more appropriate if you are writing to someone you have not met!)

RWInc: Please find the relevant spellings and story text attached below for Jellybean with today’s learning task.

Topic: Today, we are going to find out a bit more about the AZTECS through history! Work your way through the Powerpoint, reading and learning about the Aztecs, and then complete the Aztec society task. Maybe you could draw it out yourself and use the Internet to find out more about each group. Alternatively, you could choose from one of the optional activities on the final slide!

Extra activities:

Help out at home: How can you help your adult today? Do you need to clean your room? Could you do the washing up? Maybe today you need to just hug your adult?

Viking Games: Take a look at the latest Viking Games challenge set for you by Mrs Horrigan.

Happy learning! Don’t forget to send me emails/pictures! Missing you all as always!
