Good morning, Team Amin!

Along with news about CV19, the death of George Floyd in America and the subsequent protests across the world can currently be seen and heard throughout the news and media.

I know parents have emailed for advice on how to tackle difficult conversations about race and racism and several children have expressed an interest in learning and talking more too at school now and via email from home.

Yesterday morning, RAPS sent out (and I blogged - see previous post) a document entitled 'Seeing in Colour' which was put together by Miss Aitken, Mrs Beech and I. It contains a parent help guide which includes tips and suggestions when talking to children about race, racism and inequity, various links to websites that support discussions about racism and book recommendations for a range of age groups. Next week, the learning set for Team Amin will look to develop their understanding and generate their own discussion and learning around tackling racism and challenging stereotypes.

PE: Find a safe space (Garden? Living room?) and do 10 jumping jacks, 10 squats and 10 bunny hops.

M: Start with a speedy recap of your number bonds to 20. Hit the Button will be useful for this. Today, we are going to be working on subtracting 3 and 4 digit numbers with regrouping. Don’t forget to make sure your columns align and don't forget to exchange carefully! Remember ‘borrowing’ is the old word for ‘exchanging’. Ask an adult or go online for a reminder of the steps.

Topic: Today, we are considering our responsibilities as citizens of a global community! Take a look at Slide 5 and reflect on the questions posed!

The idea that we, as humans, have a responsibility to look after our planet and its people is an important one for many communities, cultures and religions. Our actions, big or small, whether we are picking up litter on the beach, raising awareness on important topics like tolerance or climate change, donating to charity and foodbanks or, indeed, campaigning for the fair and equal treatment of children (and adults alike), are all actions of a global citizen.

You have a small, but very important, reflective task today. I want you to use the slides, Internet, books or other sources of information to create a bullet-point list of the responsibilities you feel are most important to you as a global citizen for the world, its people and environment. Please do send me your lists – I would love to see!
