Home Learning, Monday 1st June

I hope you all had a lovely half term everyone. Here we are in the final term of the year and things are starting to change. At school we will not only have the key worker children in, but now we will be having some of the other classes from Reception, Year 1 and Year 6.  Year 5 are still at home, so I will continue to provide some learning suggestions for you every day in our blog. Please see below for Monday's tasks.

PE: Mrs Horrigan has put up her new PE blog and it is on our Year 5 blog for you to check out. Choose a task every day and get active!

Reading: We have a new novel. It's called 'Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth' by Frank Cottrell-Boyce. It will tie in to our new topic, I hope that you enjoy it as much as TABITGB! To start I have attached images of the novel and I would like you to have a look at them.  I want you to be the 'predictor' today and think about what the novel may be about, its themes, who the characters may be and what you think might happen. Now be the 'questioner' and come up with three questions about the novel that you would like to find out. Tomorrow we will begin to explore the novel itself.

Maths: Arithmetic time. Try not to spend over 40 minutes on the paper. Go through the answers and see if you can work out where you went wrong on at least 2 of the questions.

English: Reading Comprehension. We are going to be exploring Earth and the Solar System this term, so I have attached a reading comprehension to start us off. There at three levels of difficulty from 1 star to 3 star so choose the right level of challenge for you.

Topic: Earth and Beyond. Art to start. I would like you to read through the Powerpoint I have attached about the artist Vincent Van Gough and his style of painting which was called 'Impressionism'. Then I would like you to examine the three images I have attached which are based on a famous Van Gough painting. Can you find the title of the painting in the Powerpoint? For your Art to Start create a 'space picture' in the style of Van Gough. You can use any media you wish!
