The shiny wreckage, scattered “space rocks,” and strange footprints sparked instant excitement and curiosity. The children became space explorers, investigating clues and writing brilliant questions about its alien pilot. Who was on board? Where had it come from? Why did it land here? Throughout the term, the crash will inspire creative writing, teamwork, and imaginative role-play. What an unforgettable way to launch our new English text — learning truly blasted off in Year 2!

Team A-M showed fantastic resilience and perseverance as they overcame the challenges involved in this activity. Next, we collaborated in small groups to design and make a marble run. We were able to test out, troubleshoot and then adjust our designs so that the marbles ran smoothly down the ramps. After lunch, we used lollipop sticks and elastic bands to make catapults. Then we practised firing at a target. Finally, our busy day ended in a hands-on workshop called 'School of Noise,' where we got to experiment with interesting equipment to produce different noises (ask us about the vegetables!)

We had great fun with mathematical problems. We also got to meet some other great teachers. With Miss Bullard the children explored making patterns with triangles, with Miss Hayzelden they used cubes to help them count and worked what happened when they added double or 4 times the number of cubes. Then with Mr Brun-Cialis the children used their methodical thinking to work out the problem of the chicken, fox and corn. While finally they solved a dice challenge in Team Amin-McCurry

For each of the activities, we had to show our creativity, collaboration, and resilience.

In year 2, we followed directions to build a vehicle. Thank you to all the adults who came in to help! We will continue to decorate our vehicles before testing them out on different surfaces later this week. 

We also investigated microbes with 'Glo-Germ.'  We had great fun using special equipment to locate the germs on our hands and around the classrooms. We will all be washing our hands much more thoroughly now we have seen what is on them!

We know humans can look, talk, think and act in different ways and that our differences make us unique and special. Regardless of our appearance, beliefs, preferences, religion, financial situation, background etc, we are all important and should be celebrated. All living things have rights and we all have the responsibility to protect those rights, especially by protecting others’ bodies and feelings. After playing some games to show our differences and to generate conversations about diversity, we worked hard to create a class piece of art showing our personal responses to our learning! Take a look just outside our classroom doors at our lovely artwork!

We clarified what makes an ‘emergency’ and recapped the types of emergency responders (police, firefighters, paramedics, coastguard etc.), before exploring what dialling 999 actually means. We practised how to stay calm and ask for help and what important information to share, such as our name, where we might be, and what has happened. We also talked about what we could do if we were in an emergency but unable to call 999 – e.g. being lost. To build our confidence, we roleplayed dialling 999 and having a conversation with a responder in an emergency. Our challenge now is to learn our key personal information if there ever was an emergency.

For our Art to Start, we explored the works of Giuseppe Arcimboldo who used fruit, vegetables and other objects in his artwork. ​Inspired by these and by our growing knowledge of what a portrait is, we used fresh fruit and vegetables to create our own self-portraits in the style of Arcimboldo! Take a look at us in action! Best of all, we got to eat our work after and try some vegetables like lettuce, lemons and peppers! ​

A friend even brought in a book to share which had lots of our learning inside too!

What a super performance of 'Lights, Camel, Action' and what a fantastic start to Christmas show season too! You were confident, enthusiastic and absolutely brilliant on stage and we are very proud of all of you for your efforts during rehearsals, on stage today and for showing your resilience in the lead up to the show as well.  

From show to party, thank you parents and carers for your continued support as always with costumes, lines, party food and smiles - we know the Year 2 children were so very proud to share their extravaganza with you and to then celebrate with some lovely food!

Today was lots of fun - some of us made Christmas cards, some of us played Top Trumps and Uno! Some of us used our junk modelling to construct and some of us made some stunning stockings!
