Team Morris (Yr1)

Last week during Personal Development Week, we read the book "Meesha Makes Friends" and discussed how we could make friends. We shared our ideas and experiences, and then made our on 'dolls' just like in the story. We shared are favourite parts of the story - and most agreed we liked the part where Meesha and the boy started making the dolls together. We also talked about what made a good friend, including being kind, helpful and sharing nicely. 

Some of you may remember that during our transition days, we made our mark in our new Year 1 classroom! Our inspiration was the wonderful story The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, which follows Vashti, who believes she cannot draw. With a little encouragement, Vashti discovers that sometimes the most important thing is simply to have a go.

During our transition days, we created our own colourful dots, which are now proudly displayed in our classroom. This week, we revisited the story and talked about how its message can help us when we face something that feels difficult or unfamiliar.

We thought about resilience, perseverance and having a positive attitude towards challenges. Together, we came up with some special phrases to remind us that we can keep going when things get tricky, including “I can do it,” “We are resilient,” and “I will keep trying.”

We hope these messages will become something we can carry with us throughout Year 1, whether we are learning something new, making a mistake or trying something that feels a little challenging. 🌟

We are excited to see all the marks, big and small, that we will make throughout our Year 1 journey!
