Modern Foreign Languages

What language do children learn at RAPS and why?

At RAPS, children across Years 1- 6 learn French. We have chosen French as our modern foreign language based on the curriculum taught at our family of secondary schools, as well as our geographical location with the ease of visits to France. Having knowledge of a foreign language is widely recognised as part of being well-educated. A modern foreign language is a desirable, if not essential, requirement for entry into university, college and good employment.

How is French taught?

French is taught using the Rising Stars French programme. This engaging and accessible programme provides us a cohesive curriculum that builds and grows children's vocabulary and understanding as they grow through the school. The content is taught by our class teachers through the programme's games, songs and enjoyable activities.

How can I support my child to learn French?

Using basic phrases and words around the house can be a great way to reinforce the French being taught in school. Singing along to French songs or learn vocabulary together through games or apps can help your child build confidence in speaking French.
