Home reading at RAPS

In KS1, children on the RWI inc programme will be given a levelled book which corresponds with the sound they are learning in class. For those children off the programme, they will take home a levelled book. Children are encouraged to also bring home a book of interest that they can share with you at home.

In KS2, year 3 children will start on levelled books until they are confident decoding and are able to read fluently. After this, children will be encouraged and supported to choose books to independently read. Year 4, 5 and 6 children will also be 'free readers' with those who need support decoding and understanding also bringing home a levelled book to read aloud with their adults. 

Please use their reading records to record their reading at home. If your child is bringing home a levelled book, please record when you have heard them reading aloud and comment on this. If your child is independently reading, please talk with them about what they are reading (perhaps their likes and dislikes or ask them to summarise what they have read) and record a short comment.
