Developing new skills in RWI

The children are now beginning to spell simple words such as tin, sat and sad using their magnetic whiteboards. This has been introduced this week and the children are showing incredible resilience learning these new skills!

How can you help at home?

• Practise the sounds sent home, keeping it short and fun.

• Play “Fred Talk”: say a word in sounds, such as “m-a-t”, and see if your child can blend them together.

• Have a go at building simple words using magnetic letters or letters written on small pieces of paper. Encourage your child to say each sound as they choose the letters.

A few minutes of practice at a time is plenty. Celebrate their efforts as well as the words they get right 😊
