Vibrant Wellbeing Theatre Workshops at RAPS

Wellbeing, the importance of supporting each other and mental health have been explored in a series of high energy, joyful ‘punk theatre’ workshops at Ramsgate Arts Primary.

A mixed group of Key Stage 2 children have worked with Brigitte Aphrodite and Quiet Boy from Crescendorious Theatre during sessions over a three-week period.

RAPS pupils embraced the opportunity to express themselves through performance, collaboration and imagination, enjoying workshops filled with energy, creativity, laughter and reflection.

Teacher Claire O'Flaherty said: “We are incredibly grateful to Crescendorious Theatre Company for inspiring our young people and giving them such a memorable experience.

“The workshops were such a joyful experience for the children — full of fun, silliness and laughter, whilst also creating a safe space to explore feelings and wellbeing. It was wonderful to see so many children grow in confidence and really get so much out of the experience.

“Brigitte loved working with our children and is looking forward to working with them again soon hopefully.”

Deputy Head of School Danny Holliday explained the importance of immersive learning sessions that visit the school. He said: “Workshops like these are incredibly valuable for our children, giving them opportunities to build confidence, resilience and creativity in a safe and supportive environment.

“Through theatre and performance, pupils learn how to express themselves, work collaboratively and develop important emotional wellbeing skills that will support them both in school and beyond.”

The workshops formed part of Gotta Get Thru This, a grassroots performance festival celebrating care, creativity, hope and community that brought together local artists and community groups from across Thanet to explore how they can support one another through challenging times.

The theatre group’s website states: “Crescendorious is a punk, joyous theatre company based in Margate, co-led by critically-acclaimed artists Brigitte Aphrodite and Quiet Boy (AKA Gaz Tomlinson).

“Its mission is to smash barriers and amplify vibrant voices by building welcoming creative spaces in partnership with others to drive change.“
