RAPS’ Enterprising Entrepreneurs
Young entrepreneurs at Ramsgate Arts Primary demonstrated impressive creativity, teamwork and business skills after completing a week-long Enterprise Project that culminated in a successful business fair that raised more than £300 in profit.
Working in small business teams, the Year 6 pupils were challenged to create their own product-based businesses from scratch.
Their first task was to develop and pitch an idea to Head of School Nick Budge and Deputy Head of School Danny Holliday, convincing them to invest in their venture.
Once investment was secured, each team carefully planned their product designs, carried out market research with younger year groups to find out what customers wanted, and designed eye-catching posters to advertise their businesses.
The young entrepreneurs then created detailed budgets before visiting Tesco superstore to buy materials they needed. Back at school, they set about making their products, preparing everything for the much-anticipated Enterprise Fair.
Their ideas were imaginative and varied. Visitors were able to enjoy refreshing mocktails and homemade milkshakes, test their aim with carnival-style games such as knocking over cans to win prizes, and treat themselves to delicious chocolate-dipped fruit.
Every stall reflected the pupils' creativity and entrepreneurial thinking, with each group working hard to attract customers and maximise their profits.
Year 6 parents and Key Stage Two pupils attended the event, where they enthusiastically supported the children's businesses. Money raised will help offset the cost of the pupils' end-of-year activities, including visits to a bowling alley, a trampoline park and the aqua park in Sandwich.
Assistant Head of School Hannah Dannell, said: "The project has been such a valuable learning experience.
“Our pupils developed a real understanding of budgeting, calculating profit and loss, marketing and customer research, while also learning the importance of teamwork, communication and problem-solving.
“It has been wonderful to watch their confidence grow throughout the week, and they should all be incredibly proud of what they have achieved."
Mr Budge agreed and added: "I was incredibly impressed by the professionalism, creativity and determination shown by every group.
“From their business pitches through to the final fair, the children approached every stage with enthusiasm and maturity. The money they have raised is a fantastic achievement, but even more importantly, they have developed skills that will benefit them well beyond primary school."
