  • End of Term 1!

    Published 24/10/26, by Helen McCurry

This week, year 4 shared some of the Love to Learn projects they have been working on at home. There were fabulous bubbling volcanoes, creative posters including lift-the-flap information paragraphs and even photos of some of our students standing on a volcano! They worked so hard on these projects and the results were very impressive. We cannot wait to see what the next Love to Learn projects will be like. Look out for the new task in term 2.

We had our first year 4 trip to the library and parent/carer reading session – thank you to all those who came. We will keep you posted about dates for the next ones.

Next term, we will be taking a trip to the copse to prepare for our new English text. We welcome any parent/carer volunteers who would like to join us. Team McCurry will go 12:40-1:40 on Tuesday 10th November and Team O will go 12:40–1:40 on Tuesday 17th November. Let us know if you would like to come along for a lovely nature walk.

Lastly, don't forget the TTRS battle has commenced! Team McCurry vs Team O. Keep practising those times tables on Times Tables Rock Stars! https://play.ttrockstars.com/

  • Year 4 visit the library

    Published 21/10/26, by Helen McCurry

This week, we visited our local library to browse the shelves for some interesting books to read. Some of us chose non-fiction texts about our recent studies while others looked for a great fiction book to read over the half-term holiday. The Bunny Vs Monkey books by Jamie Smart were very popular. Who is your favourite author?

If you forgot your library card this time, don't worry, we will be going again next term.

  • Addition and subtraction

    Published 15/10/26, by Helen McCurry

This week, we started a new unit in maths focusing on addition and subtraction. We worked in pairs or independently to solve 4-digit addition and subtraction problems, including word problems. We particularly enjoyed the 'Write the Room' activity, where we had to find the maths problems in different places around our classroom and solve them. Next we will be focusing on column addition with regrouping.

Don't forget to keep practising your times tables at home!

  • Team O explore lava!

    Published 07/10/26, by Kiki Amin

This term, Year 4 have been exploring the fascinating world of volcanoes and today, they delved deeper into lava! Children investigated whether lava with low or high viscosity travels further, making predictions and testing ideas using different liquids including honey, shampoo, vinegar and ketchup. We discovered that some liquids flow much more easily than others! We also learnt that when lava cools, it becomes solid igneous rock, and explored how the viscosity of lava can affect the way it flows.

With plenty of hands-on learning and some fantastic scientific questions along the way, we had such a fun lesson today! We cannot wait to show you our beautiful volcano work next term at parent consultations too!🌋
