RAPS Help Judge Funniest Fart Competition

Children at Ramsgate Arts Primary have been challenged to get to the bottom of an unusual task – to help judge the world’s funniest fart.

They have been listening to a range of entries for the latest madcap competition run by Margate’s innovative and acclaimed ‘clawsome’ Crab Museum.

The final is on Saturday (June 14) and the RAPS junior leadership team have been voting on a range of recorded offerings to get to the bottom of the crazy contest.

Scientist Chase Coley, one of the museum’s directors, visited the school this week to share the top-secret fart shortlist.

The children took their judging job very seriously and used a fart-o-meter to gauge which were the silliest.

The winner will be revealed in an event at the Crab Museum in Broad Street on Saturday (June 14) where a pre-recorded video message of the RAPS judging panel will be played.

Teacher Claire O'Flaherty explained: “The children loved the responsibility of being judges for this hilarious competition. The Crab Museum also gave us some copies of their new book 'A Natural History of Bums' so that we could learn more about farts and their scientific importance.”

The museum say other judges who have been considering the bizarre entries include Margate Mayor Cllr Katie Pope, comedians Nish Kumar and Lou Sanders, plus medical professionals and scientists.

In its online promotion for the contest, the museum says it is ‘fighting stigma one stinker at a time states’ and adds: “All humans fart - and many other animals do too.

“Farting is natural, scientifically interesting and funny. We want to destigmatize farting, and advocate for a more mature relationship with this most puerile bodily function.

“Rates of colorectal cancer are increasing around the world, especially among younger people. Being embarrassed, ashamed or grossed out by farts will not help us deal with this looming global problem.

“Instead, we want to celebrate farts and give them their moment in the spotlight.”
