28/04/2020: Home Learning

Happy Tuesday Amin! What a super Monday we had. Well done to all of you! I loved reading your Dr K descriptions and looking at your Rousseau artwork.

Learning for today

PE: Do a Joe Wicks’ workout! (I'm going to have another go too, but am not hopeful!) Don’t forget your water bottle and safe space.

M: Start with a speedy recap of your 4x and 8x. You can do this with a dice game if you have dice, on TTRS, Hit the Button, or you could practise chanting like we do in school?

Today, we are practising subtraction 1 step problems. If you need a reminder for subtraction steps:

Don't forget to exchange carefully! Remember ‘borrowing’ is the old word for ‘exchanging’ and remember that you cannot take a greater value away from a smaller value!

Please find your sheet with questions attached below!

E: Start with practising this week’s spelling words (T5W2). Then, go into your Home Learning, Reading section and have a listen again to the story so far.

TASK: Today, I want you to imagine you are one of the people inside of the parlour as Dr K walks in. You could be the Burgomaster, Fritz, Herr Ringelmann or just an ordinary villager. Write a diary entry about the events of the evening. Describe what you were doing before the door opened, what you had been doing that day, how you felt when you saw Dr K, how you felt when you heard Dr K’s voice, Fritz’s reaction, how others in the room looked etc. Challenge word: 'aghast' (filled with horror or shock)

RWInc: Can you write your instructions so well that ALIENS could understand?

TOPIC: Let’s briefly explore rainforests and look ahead to our learning over the next few weeks. Check out this super video: https://video.nationalgeographic.com/video/environment/101-videos/00000169-a75c-dfeb-abe9-ff5d62f80000

Today, we are going to explore and think about rainforests around the world. Take a look at the Powerpoint attached. If you have an atlas or a world map, it would be useful to have it on hand. See if your map indicates world rainforests! I am attaching the planning sheet today in case you want to directions/want your learning to take a different direction.

1) Pick and choose which activities you want to do. You DO NOT have to do them all!

2) Choose one rainforest location and find out how easy it would be to visit it. What continent is it on? What transport would you need to take? How long would it take to get there?

You can find links to learning websites about (Ghana, Ecuador, Guatemala) when you view the PP: e.g. https://www.rainforest-alliance.org/pictures/romels-rainforest-home

Also: You can find an ebook version of ‘Rainforest Calling’ in the Home Learning section.

Extra activities:

Have time?: There is a series of BBC Teach Live lessons about the sea including one about conservation and plastic pollution: https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/live-lessons/blue-planet-live-lesson/zn7tkmn

R: Access the GG Powerpoint and listen along to Groosham Grange and/or read a chapter of a book of your choice.

Spelling: Practise this week’s spelling in time to test yourself this Friday!

Help around the house?: Ask your adult if there is anything you can do to make their day better!

Have a super day. Happy learning! Don’t forget to send me emails/pictures/upload to Padlet!
