The Sports Day Team
We are excited to see you all at Ellington park on Tuesday 8th July. Please let me or the office know if you are able to walk from the school at 12:30 to Elington park for a picnic! (If you are able to walk from the school, please note you will be included in our adult to children ratio and will be needed to walk back to school with us - please let us know if any issues asap). Feel free to bring food for your child, but remember all food should be nut free. Children will have had their lunch at school as normal.
We will be leaving the park to walk back to school at 2:15. If you have come to join us at the park, you may take your child home directly from the park. Otherwise, collection from school at 3:00 as normal.
Attached below, is the social story for the day !
Thank you :)
On Friday 4th July, the final spellings for the year will be handed out! They will be tested on these words next Friday (11th July). This will be their last spelling test in year 2! Good Luck Year 2!
We have been having so much fun practising our spellings at school! Here
"I like the sand writing because it is testing our knowledge in sand - which is fun"
"I like the whack a word activity because you have to be speedy"
"I like the really tricky spellings!"
" I like that we are testing our knowledge!"
" I love the mini teacher activity, because you get to direct and then help your friends!"
"I like practising spellings by writing them on whiteboards"
Today, we recapped recognising O’clock and half past, as well as making them on our clocks. We discussed the minute and hour hand, as well as continued counting in our 5’s around the clock. We learnt that ‘quarter past’ means 15 minutes past the O’clock, with the minute hand on 3 and the hour hand past the O'clock number. We reminded ourselves of our fraction's knowledge, dividing a circle into four equal parts and identifying a quarter. Then, we moved on to ‘quarter to’ and learnt that when the minute hand is on the 9 it means 15 minutes to the next O’clock. This was slightly trickier because you have to say ‘quarter to’ the next number, not past! We practised on our clocks, making O’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to
Please find attached the spellings for this week. They will be given out on Friday and the children will be tested on these the following Friday. These are all the common exception words taken from the year 2 curriculum.
Year 2 have been learning all about natural and man-made materials. We began by exploring the difference between the two, before looking deeper into the ethical side of using natural materials, particularly animal-based ones. We learnt how many years ago, animals such as alligators, foxes, minks, ostriches, and elephants were hunted for their skins and furs to make clothes and accessories! We discussed how this was unfair and unethical, and how people around the world protested to help protect these animals.
Team Morris love mindful Mondays! Especially when we say bye to the classroom and hello! to the field. Seeing as the weather is so nice, we decided to go and do mindful games outside, as well as cloud watching and yoga! We decided that some of the clouds looked like "one of the stars from mario kart", dogs, a star, Kirby, seahorses, lizard, cotton candy and many more! We had a fantastic game of 'duck, duck, goose' to help us let go of some of our energy - we worked excellently as a team! Finally, we did some Yoga as a class, led by Miss Morris! We cannot wait to continue going outside for more mindful Monday activities!
Please find attached this week's spellings! They will be handed out on Friday 20th June and will be tested the following Friday 27th June. They are all common exceptions words year 2 need to know by the end of the year!
Year 2 went on an exciting material hunt today around RAPS, giving us a chance to recall our learning about different materials from Year 1! We searched for everyday objects made from materials such as wood, plastic, metal, paper, fabric, and glass, and some of us even verbally classified the materials based on their properties! After recording our findings with our partners, Year 2 discussed why certain materials may be used over other materials for specific objects. The hunt was lots of fun! Ask us all about it!
We had the BEST time creating clothes, headbands, bags, watches and much more- out of newspapers for this term's topic, "What we wear"! Team Morris used their super creativity and collaboration skills, working as a team to create their masterpieces. Well done Team Morris - you should be proud!
