An introduction to decimals for year 4
Today in Year 4 we got familiar with decimals and how they are used in everyday life through cafe role play.
Referring to prices as 1 whole and 5 tenths for £1.50, children had to use fake money to buy items and give change back using the terms:
- Whole
- Tenths
- Decimal point
- Value
- Decimal
During the plenary of the lesson, we came together and spoke about how pupils now felt about the upcoming unit. Before the activity, many had little knowledge of decimals. Afterwards, many were able to use technical vocabulary to express what they had learnt.
