English: IK the features of a non-chronological report (information text)

I hope you enjoyed learning about the Science Fiction genre last week. A big thank you to Danika for sending her story though to me, loved it. This week we will be recapping non-chronological reports.

A non-chronological report's purpose is to give us information about a subject. Its audience is whoever is interested in finding out about that subject.

We would find non-chronological reports in encyclopaedias or books that give us lots of facts about a subject. We have lots of these types of books in school and we used them when finding out about all of our topics this year.

Check this out to begin.

I would now like you to look through the Powerpoint that I have attached that will recap the features of a non-chronological report and take you through a few things that you will need to think about when writing one.

Next I would like you to read an example of a non-chronological report. I have attached one about sharks.

1. See if you can spot the features of a NC report in the text.

2. The report is also a reading comprehension. There are three levels of difficulty, from 1 star to three stars. I would like you to choose the one that provides a challenge for you. Parents and carers, the answers are, as usual, attached if you would like to go through it with your child afterwards.

Topic: ME: what is the sun?

The key part of our solar system is the sun. As we know, all planets revolve around the sun and without the sun, there would be no life on earth as it provides the heat and light we need for life to flourish. But what is the sun?

The sun is actually a star. It is spherical, like the earth and the moon. It looks different ot other stars we see in the sky simply because it is closer to us than those other stars even though it is still very far from earth making it seem much smaller than it is.

The sun is more than 1million times bigger than earth!

Let's find out some facts about the sun:

TASK: Can you create your own quiz about the sun for your parents to answer. You might like to use power point if you have access to it.
