African masks

On our final day of Arts Week, the children were able to create an African mask...

After gathering inspiration from a range of pictures, and watching a short clip about how traditional masks are constructed, the children designed and created their own over the course of the day.

Firstly, they had to decide on a shape and add 3d elements such as noses and 'eyebrows'. Once done, the children gave the masks a base coat of paint to make them look 'wooden'. Afterwards the real decoration could be done using beads, wood, coloured paper and even shells.

They look amazing!!!
