Topic this week

We have undertaken the last lessons of our topic, 'Living Alive!' this week, covering some tricky concepts such as evolution theory, adaptation and inheritance...

The children have learned about the work and research of Charles Darwin - writing a diary entry from his viewpoint after his travels to the Galápagos Islands. From this, they explored in greater detail the scientific process of adaptation - using the giraffe and its long neck as an example. This led on to the notion of inheritance and some characteristics and traits that can be passed on through the generations.

Through our discussions in class and the learning they have produced in their books, the children have digested these tricky topics remarkably well!
