Material World

Our new IPC topic unit is Material World, and we had our entry point and knowledge harvest this week... The children were tasked to create a model Viking ship (as seen on our school badge), but were not told that they would be tested for their sailing abilities. This was to introduce a discussion about WHY certain materials are best suited for a specific purpose and that different materials have different properties. This will be explored over the coming weeks. They worked really well - but are definitely aware now, if they weren't before, that paper and card are not suitable as a material for boat-building!!!
