Towards the end of the last term the children worked on story writing... The children planned using the 5-stages (from beginning to ending, via build-up, problem/climax and resolution), and then wrote remembering to include:

  • Interesting sentence openers (adverbials followed by a comma)
  • Expanded noun phrases (adjectives to describe people, places and things)
  • Dialogue (including inverted commas and capital letters)

For the remaining week of the holidays, I would love it if the children could attempt to write their own short story. It could be Easter-themed or about any places they have visited (castles, wild animal parks etc) - the choice is theirs! Make it exciting and interesting. Please encourage the children to read back through to check for punctuation and that it makes sense!! I want detail, description and excitement! There will be a few small prizes on offer for the best few!

Attached are examples of a planning template, as well as a list of adverbs which could be used as sentence openers...

Happy writing!
