Number Day

On Monday we helped celebrate Number Day to raise money for the NSPCC...

The whole day was maths themed and many of the children came in wearing maths-related clothing for a donation of £1. The children learned how co-ordinates are useful in real life before learning the skills of plotting grid references and co-ordinates to reveal a picture. In addition, the children learned about 'Magic Squares' - which encouraged mental addition and subtraction skills. During topic time in the afternoon the children learned about the Egyptian number system - how it was so much better than earlier models, but not as efficient as today's.
