Egyptian embalmers

Today Team Beraet travelled back a few thousand years and began the process of mummification...

Sadly, we were not allowed any spare dead bodies so we recreated the process on a tomato! The children went through the same steps that the priests would have undertaken all those years ago. All the insides were removed (though not put in canopic jars) before the 'body' was cleaned inside and out (using hand sanitiser rather than wine and spices) before being filled with natron - a mix of salt and bicarbonate of soda. Finally it was put into a coffin (not really) and packed with more natron where it will be left for a few weeks to see what has happened.
