In guided reading the children have continued with ‘Clockwork’ – a clever and engaging read about how lives can be entwined and a series of events can become almost unstoppable. This week the children have looked at the expression in the text, as well as discussing vocabulary choices and the effect of specific word choices on the reader. All the children have been engrossed in the book and have enjoyed the level of suspense the author has created throughout. When we have had to stop, the children have made insightful and text-based predictions of what may occur next.

In their writing they have explored the key features of a persuasive letter and begun to draft their own version, before going back and adding greater detail through the use of conjunctions, adjectives and superlatives. These will be built upon further with additional persuasive features in the coming week.
