Democracy and Debating

Discussing democracy and practising our debating skills

Today, Team Amin revisited the concept of ‘democracy’, discussing what it means to be a part of a democratic society and how this affects people. Then, we considered what a debate involves and how we present our arguments to an audience effectively. In groups based on our own beliefs, we prepared for our very own debate on the effectiveness of school uniform in a learning environment. We projected our voices, made eye contact and offered persuasive, constructed arguments and counter-arguments to each other very well. We also respected our different opinions superbly. What great use of our sentence openers to help strengthen the impact of our various points: 'In my opinion, ...', 'We believe that...', 'I disagree with this point because...', 'On the other hand, I feel that it is...' and so on.
