Daily Challenges: Thursday 7th May

Thursday is the new Friday... well, this week anyway!

Good morning Team Spurrier,

HAPPY THURSDAY! We have been so lucky with this amazing weather haven't we. Remember to use this time to not just focus on the home learning tasks but spend time as a family, discuss nature, history, family traditions and member etc. Talk and play are so important too! 

Just a reminder that there will be NO HOME LEARNING SET ON FRIDAY as it is a bank holiday so enjoy a lovely, long weekend.

RWI: 

Miss Spurrier’s group- qu- queen 

Words for spelling: quick, quiz, queen. 

Sentence: The quiz went well.  

Miss Taft’s group- w- worm 

Words for blending:  win, well, web 

Spelling: win, well, web 

Sentence: I can win. 

Mrs Barnes’ group- ur- nurse with a purse.  

Words for spelling: burn, hurt, burger. 

Sentence: The burn hurt my arm.  

Miss Merry’s group- i-e – nice smile 

Words for spelling: tile, smile, pile. (special friends who have been split up for talking and someone else has been put in the middle e.g. smile- I-e is the sound with the loop over to show who was talking and l is the letter that’s been put in the middle). 

Sentence: You have a nice smile. 

Please record in yellow book. -Two lines of handwriting of the sound with finger spaces, three spellings with the sound in and record the sentence with a capital letter and full stop.  I have attached a photo of how you may want to lay the home learning out in your yellow book.

I have recorded myself going through the RWI set 1, 2 and 3 sounds. I am trying to rival Rosie on YouTube. There is no password.

Counting/Starter: Counting in 10s.

Challenge: Knowing that coins have different values and that you can buy more/ less with different coins. Look at the coin detective sheet. Can you find the right coin? How many are there of each one? 

Extension: Can you put the coins in their order of value?  Can you add any together to make other small amounts up to 20p? See sheets attached or use real life coins.

Topic: 

Theme: Growth 

Main: Exploring different animals. Animals need looking after, just like us.  

Extension: What do animals need to stay alive? Can you draw a picture or put a photo on the Padlet of your favourite animals or pets and tell us how you look after them? Can you help your grown up to look after them? Have a watch of the Edinburgh zoo and see how they look after their animals. Are they all the same? What do you see? Have a chat with your grown up about the similarities and differences of the animal’s needs.

VE Day:

Tomorrow is VE day. Discuss as a family: What is VE day? Why do we celebrate it? How do different people celebrate it? Why is it important? What happened? Go through VE day powerpoint which talks in a simple way about what happened. 

Could you decorate your front room window? Could you make some bunting, flags or cakes? Post on the Padlet of how you celebrated VE day.
