03/06/2020: Home Learning

Good morning, Team Amin

Learning for today:

PE: Find a safe space (Garden? Living room?) and do 10 jumping jacks, 10 squats and 10 bunny hops.

M: Start with a speedy recap of your 6x. You can do this with a dice game if you have dice, bingo, Hit the Button etc.?

We are going revisit rounding to the nearest 100 this morning! I find rounding tricky, but as long as I remember that I need to underline the tens and ones and circle the hundreds… I should be fine!

Take a look at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bx-XKcgKqzc

For rounding to the nearest 100, remember:      50 or more = UP   49 or less = DOWN

e.g.  134 =            1) Underline 34   2) Circle 1

                           3) 1 = 1 hundred = 100 and my next hundred up is 2 hundreds = 200

BUT underlining the 34 tells me I am going down to the nearest hundred so…… 100!

e.g.  68=            1) Underline 68   2) Circle nothing! I have no hundreds!

                           3)  0 hundreds = 0 and my next hundred up is 1 hundred = 100

BUT underlining the 68 tells me I am going up to the nearest hundred so…… 100!

PRACTICE: Round to the nearest 100:

  1. 67        b) 93        c) 345         d) 112       e) 766       f) 1953       g) 8725    h) 10, 036

E: We’re going to practise using synonyms for ‘said’ today! Said is boring! Take a look at the worksheet attached below and use the gravestone to replace said with exciting alternatives. Want to push yourself? Use a thesaurus and see if you can find some other exciting synonyms to use. Have your adult check you have used the synonyms in the right context because, as we know, the English language is tricky and doesn’t really follow many rules.

RWInc: Please find the relevant spellings and story text attached below for How to make a Peach Treat with today’s learning task.

T: Quick recap: What is identity? What does identity mean to you? Today, let’s consider the ways in which we express our identity. Take a look at the slides attached below. At the end in the plenary, you will find three questions. Consider how you might respond to these – you can write your answers down or you could just talk through your thoughts with your adult. You may choose to use the rest of your afternoon to finish or add to your junk write.

Extra activities:

Drawing: Having now read the opening chapter and seen the front cover on the slides, can you draw your own version of a Mesopotamian Blue cat? Maybe you could draw your own version of Jalal seeing as we have heard only a little about him so far? Then in a few weeks time, you could draw another Jalal once we know more about him and compare the difference in your drawings!

R: Catch up with Varjak if you haven’t already!

Spelling: Practise this week’s spelling in time to test yourself this Friday!

Have a FANTASTIC Wednesday. Happy learning! Don’t forget to send me emails/pictures!
