05/05/2020: Home Learning

Happy Tuesday Amin! What a fabulous Monday we seem to have had! I've really enjoyed reading your writing and looking at some super drawings too! Well done to all of you :)

Learning for today

< PS: I have added to Diamond Brothers! It's getting good! >

PE: Do your Rosie (and Joe) Wicks’ workout. Don’t forget your water bottle and safe space!

M: Start with a speedy recap of your 4x and 8x. You can do this with a dice game if you have dice, on TTRS, Hit the Button, or you could practise chanting like we do in school?

Today, we are practising multiplication by 10 and 100 (and 1000) again but with a little more variation with questions. The video from yesterday if you need a reminder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbPLPUqwhZ4 Find some questions in a sheet for today attached.

E: Go into your Home Learning, Reading section and have a listen again to the story so far.

TASK: Today, I want you to imagine you are Gretl and are sitting in the parlour just as Sir Ironsoul starts to move. Writing in the 1st person (I, me, my…), write a short narrative describing what happens when you first spot him. What were you doing as the figure approached? How did you feel when you first heard the mechanisms, or first caught sight of its sword, or first realised you were alone with the figure in the room? What did he look like to you? Did you say anything or call for anyone? Did you start to back away?

RWInc: Please find the relevant spellings and text attached below too for Hole in Hill with today’s learning task J

TOPIC: Comprehension day today! Cue sigh and groan from most of us if we were in school! Comprehensions are really important, however, as I know I always tell you. It is all well and good that you can read brilliantly but if you can’t understand, we have a bit of a problem…. SO: Please find several VERY SHORT quick read comprehensions attached below. There is no time limit so take your time with it and you DON'T need to do them all BUT remember…. worded questions mean worded answers which means full stops and capital letters!

Alternatively, I am reattaching the fact files from yesterday. You could read the files yourself and either have your adults ask you questions about one, write your own comprehension style questions for it, or set questions for friends that you are in contact with!

Extra activities:

R: Access the GG Powerpoint and listen along to The Diamond Brothers and/or read a chapter of a book of your choice. You might also like to listen to ‘Rainforest Calling’ which I have put in the Home Learning section.

Spelling: Practise this week’s spelling in time to test yourself this Friday!

Help around the house?: Today, I want you to grab your adult a glass of juice or water without them asking, give them a big hug if they look tired, help your sibling with their learning in some way etc.

Have a lovely day. Happy learning! Don’t forget to send me emails/pictures/upload to Padlet!
