People who help us- The Coastguard and lifeguards
Look at our amazing helicopter...
This week we have been continuing to learn all about people who help us in the community. As we live by the sea it is so important to learn about water safety. We started the week by learning all about lifeguards and how they help us. We learnt all about the RNLI and these are their safety tips:
1.Stop and think. Are there possible dangers; glass on the beach, tide coming in, currents, jellyfish, sharp rocks, getting lost etc
2.Stay together. Always stay with the grown up who has taken you to the water
3.Float important if you ever fall into cold water. Your body will be shocked by the cold and this can make you panic and swallow water. You need to relax and float until you feel calm. Practise floating skills in swimming lessons.
4. Call 999/112 or Shout HELP!
Later in the week we learnt about the coastguard and how they may help us sometimes if an ambulance or lifeguard cannot get to us. We watched an amazing video of the helicopter spotting someone and hoisting them up to safety. Some of the children then decided to role play this and made an AMAZING helicopter. They used rope to pull people to safety, had walkie talkies to talk to each other and bincolulars to look into the sea.
