05/06/2020: Home Learning

Good morning, Team Amin! It’s Friday! HAPPY FRIDAY

Have a real FRI-YAY! Happy learning! Don’t forget to send me emails/pictures! Missing you all as always, but I hope you are safe and well.

Miss Amin xxx

Learning for today:

SPELLING TEST: You’re testing yourself on the words from last term's final week!. When you are done, check out the words for next week (T6W1 in spelling section) and have a little practising session.

M: Start with a speedy recap of your 12x. You can do this with a dice game if you have dice, bingo, Hit the Button etc.?

Maths challenge: Back by popular demand from some of our Team Amin members in my Key worker group, please find today’s Mystery Challenge attached! Have fun and don’t forget to send me your culprit!

E: We have now all, hopefully, read the opening chapters of Varjak Paw. Today, I would like you to write a setting description of the Contessa’s house and living room from the perspective of a cat. This means you need to imagine yourself as a cat. Maybe as Varjak or the Elder Paw? Think about how high and big things might look to you. Think about whether your cat eyes mean you can see dust, cobwebs, curtain fabrics, light in rooms, bugs more clearly. Think about what you might smell in the house? Musty smells from the armchair? Tinned meat pouring out of cat food tins? Try to include at least 3 powerful adjectives and some interesting openers. Remember: openers need commas after them. Challenge words to pick from: musty, aromatic, odourous, warped, prowling, glinting, feline (related to cats), perspective, illuminated.

RWInc: Please find the relevant spellings and story text attached below for How to make a Peach Treat with today’s learning task.

T: I am not setting you a Topic task today. We’re going to take a break from thinking about identity and belonging directly and pick up again next week. Instead, I want you to take your time this afternoon to catch up with or do anything you want to – whether this is learning from this week (I know some of you are still working on your junk journals), a new book (some of us have been reading Harry Potter, Anthony Horowitz books etc), a movie you’ve wanted to sit and watch with your family, an activity you have been getting up to at home (like painting or gardening) or, indeed, a hobby you have taken up (like playing the guitar or dancing!). You may say to me, ‘Miss Amin, why aren’t you setting me any learning?”. Well, I am. All of the activities that you might get up to might actually be linked to your identity in some way. So when you decide what you’ll be doing, think about how. Are you doing some reading with a sibling? “Loving reading books”, “being literate”, “having a sibling”, these are all parts of your identity. Maybe you could take a picture of what you chose to do and send it to me.

Extra activities:

R: Access one of the class reader Powerpoints if you haven’t already and listen along and/or read a chapter of a book of your choice. I added to the House with the Clock in its Walls yesterday.

Help around the house?: Ask your adult if there is anything you can do to make their day better! Could you unload the dishwasher? Could you make a sandwich for your adults? Water the plants? Help with dinner?
