Tuesday 28th April 2020

Good morning Team Smart!

It’s a Terrific Tuesday again! Today’s song is called Walking through the Jungle – can you sing along?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plvY0quSyJg

Maths:

Warm your brains up by adding 1 digit numbers together speedily. Do it in your head or use your fingers, toes, cubes, pasta, beads or lego. Whatever you have near by, use it to help you quickly add these calculations. Ask you adult or sibling to time you. You do not need to write the answers down but your adult or sibling need to check your answers. Tip; when adding, start with the bigger number in your head and count on!

5 + 2              6 + 2              7 + 3             2 + 8             1 + 4                1 + 5             10 + 1             9 + 2                     4 + 4                        3 + 3

Do them once more, see if you can do it even faster!

Today we are going to weigh or measure mass in non-standard units. A non-standard unit is pretty much anything that you can use repeatedly to measure something. At school we have used hands or feet and paperclips to measure length before.

If you have a balance scale, I suggest using lego (of all the same size to make it equal) or pasta to measure weight. But do not worry if you do not have a balance scale. Watch me demonstrate;       https://vimeo.com/412008025

If you can, have a go at measuring items weight with non-standard units at home and then complete the work sheet attached below (2 measure-mass).

Visit the White Rose website for another video and the same activity sheet (Lesson 2 – Measure mass)  https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/

The aim is to identify that different items have different mass. A small item may have larger mass than a big item.

Have a go at the challenge sheets if you want more maths about mass!

English

Mrs Smart’s group

As you know this term we are learning all about animals! Do you know the story of The Ugly Duckling

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dj1f0vd_RRk

Today I’d like you to perform this story!

Can you think of actions to act out this story? Then, if possible, I’d like you to send me a video of yourself performing the story with actions. (Remember when we acted out Humpty Dumpty at school). Have fun!

Handwriting / SPaG

Sing along and practise spelling these high frequency words. We use them all the time so we need to know how to spell them! We are using the letter names (not the sounds) when we spell these words:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XChcUZHW_SM

Now let’s practise writing these words:

Take care to form each letter carefully and remember the rhymes in your best handwriting! Do a line of each word:

your, this, that

Use the letter formation chart to help you.
