One Childhood, One Chance

Daily challenges: Friday 1st May

A new month begins....

Hello everyone! We hope you've had a lovely week whatever you may have been busy with :) We miss you lots and hope you are well. Remember to look after each other during this difficult time. The priority at the moment is your well-being, don't forget the 'worry' button on the school website if there are any concerns.

Maths:

Counting: Can you count how many clocks you have in your house?

Challenge: Recap yesterday’s learning about the different times of the day and the things we do during these times of the day. Introduce a time for some of these events. Use a real clock (or a photo of one...attached to blog). Talk about the features of a clock: the numbers, the short hand (hour) and long hand (minute). Explain when it is o’ clock the minute hand is on the 12 and the short hand points to a number to show us the hour.  Talk about how it tells us the time so we know when to do things throughout the day. E.g. we have lunch at 12 o’clock, we have our dinner at 6 o’clock, you got to bed at 7 o’clock.

Can you write down four different times of the day with a sentence for what you do at these times of the day? For example, At 8 o'clock in the morning I get up. Can you draw a picture of a clock to match the times of the day that you do these different things?

Friday Fun day

Theme: Ball skills

Main: This term our P.E.  topic was going to be ball skills.  what different balls can you think of? What sports use different balls? E.g. basketball uses a hard, large bouncy ball. Tennis uses a small, furry ball. Etc. Can you make a list of all the different sports you can think of? Do you have any balls around the house or In the garden? Find them for us and take a picture for the padlet. You may also find some fruit. challenge question: What 3D shape is a ball?

Warm up: Make sure you warm up first. Why do we warm up? What happens to our bodies when we warm up? Why Is it important? Children all know the answers to this: We need to warm up our bodies so that we don’t hurt ourselves. Our muscles are like a piece of plasticine, playdough or blu tac. When it is cold, it is stiff and hard to move but when warm it becomes stretchy and elasticated. Also, when we warm up our heart beats faster (can you feel it?) and therefore more blood pumps around our bodies.

20x running

20x star jumps

20x jumps

20x frog jumps

Run around the garden

Head rolls

Arm stretch

Rocket stretch (the children know)

Roll the shoulders back and then forwards

Hula hoop with the hips (big circles)

Bend and clap

Warm up the ankles by shaking and circles.

Shaking hands and feet in counts of 8.

Challenge: We would like you to start off with rolling. Sit on the floor about 2 meters apart with legs crossed or legs open in a v shape ( to stop the ball from escaping) Use a ball of your choice or round piece of fruit if you do not have a ball. Can you use two hands to push the ball towards your partner. Ensure your hands are on top of the ball when you roll (like when you roll a sausage out of playdough).  when the ball is coming towards you, make sure you stop it with both hands before rolling back. This gibes you better control and aim when rolling back.

  1. Look where you are rolling to.

  1. Put both hands on the ball and push forwards.

  1. When receiving the ball, stop with two hands on top.

Super challenge: can you do this with one hand? Still using the same technique and make sure it goes towards your partner.  Can you also move further apart to make it harder? Can you change balls? Does it make it easier or harder? Can you change the way you are sitting. Can you roll whilst on our knees or with your legs crossed?

Cool down: Have a stretch of the body, maybe do some yoga or meditation to finish off. Check your heart rate has gone back to normal and you feel good.
