Celebrating Christmas in Style
Christmas is coming and pupils at Ramsgate Arts Primary are already celebrating the festive season in style.
Hand-made decorations created by children from all year groups adorn two huge real Christmas trees, one in main reception that greets visitors, and the other in the main hall.
And the walls are adorned with wreaths that were created when more than 70 parents come into school to work with their children, using recycled material interwoven around a coat hanger that was bent to make the framework.
The colourful ‘rag wreaths’ also hang from the ceiling in the main entrance, and these can be taken home by children at the end of term to use as part of their home decorations.
Also adding a festive feel in the school corridors alongside an array of display is a large snow wolf, one of the centre parts of the recent Ramsgate festive parade by Arts in Ramsgate that also featured RAPS pupils with their home-made lanterns.
A packed programme at the school also includes a number of nativity shows by individual year groups, class parties, Santa’s grotto, a festive fair, carol singing, and a festive shop where children could buy pre-wrapped small gifts for their families.
Deputy Head of School Hannah Beech said: “We are promoting caring for the environment and recycling throughout the school and our decorations are made from recycled materials. There are some lovely decorations on our trees and our pupils can take their own ones home at the end of term.”
Head of School Nick Budge added: “Christmas is magical for our children and they are experiencing it through creative lessons, storytelling and through our programme of events.
“We love to celebrate the festive season and we embrace all cultures and religions. Our pupils are learning about the way this is celebrated around the world and what it means to children like them in other cultures.”
Ramsgate Arts Primary School is part of the Viking Academy Trust with Upton Junior School at Broadstairs and Chilton Primary School, Ramsgate.
