Hi Everyone,

Hope you all had the BEST bank holiday weekend! We were so lucky to have such beautiful weather! I had a lovely bank holiday and had a BBQ in the garden! Post what you got up to on the Padlet page!

Little Job: Hi Team R-B, I have a little job for you all. Can you take a photo of yourself holding a picture of a rainbow? This time of year would usually be our class photo time and I really miss your faces! Please email me your photos by next Friday (15th) and I will collate them and make them into one big photo so we can always remember the time when although we weren’t physically together, we were always together! 🌈 alice.rees-boughton@ramsgateartsprimaryschool.co.uk

Topic: Recap the Wright Brothers’ invention and creation of the first aeroplane. Around the same time  the Wright brothers were creating the first aeroplane, a girl whose father was a railway engineer was growing an interest in engineering. Her name was Caroline Haslett and she was a significant person from the past as she became a highly successful engineer– this isn’t unusual today but in the 1900s, when Caroline lived, it was uncommon for women to show an interest in engineering.

Explore more about her life by watching this clip:

Think about: How might CH life achievements made an impact on us today?
CH's drive to become an engineer and promote science for women inspired many other women to explore this field and enabled meant o see the potential in having women as engineers too. Her contributions helped us make progress with electrical engineering too. CH  worked with a range of electrical appliances and helped women to understand electrical engineering by writing books and manuals designed for women. As the clip explained, she asked women what electrical appliances they would like, giving them a voice to share ideas. Inventions are often designed to make life easier. By asking women what would make their lives easier, CH freed them up to pursue careers and other interest– instead of doing chores! What might make YOUR life easier?

Recorded Task: Today, you will design and present our ideas for a new electrical appliance which would make the lives of children easier or better. Think about the types of chores that take up children’s time. How could we use an electronic device or creation to do this for us? What might it do? How might it work?
Pupils to design and write a short justification explanation paragraph about their appliance. You could even then create an advert persuading people to buy your new product.

Helping at Home: Can you help today by helping sort out the washing into darks, colours and whites?

Happy Monday!

Love Miss R-B, Mrs Fetherston, Mr Brown and Charlie Fudge xxx
