Tricky topic content

In our topic learning this week, we have looked at the Holocaust and did a focus study on the life and legacy of Anne Frank...

Although this is a terrible element of history to explore, it is vital that, as people, we learn from the mistakes of the past to make a brighter future. We looked earlier in the topic at the reasons and desperation that resulted in Hitler's rise to power and the consequences for Europe of his ascent.

The Holocaust is such an emotive topic, but the children dealt with it in an extremely mature manner and were able to use published poems as a guide in writing their own poetry to represent this ghastly event.

This links in too with our first core text of the term, 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas'. We are hoping to view the film during the arts curriculum next week. If it hasn't already, a letter will be coming home shortly in regard to this. If you do not want your child to watch it, please do not hesitate to speak to the Year 6 team or the staff in the office.
