    Published 30/09/23, by Joshua Cialis

Thank you so much for coming to our parent reading session this afternoon! It was wonderful to see so many children sharing stories with their adults and friends. These termly parent sessions are a great opportunity for you to see how the children engage with books in school and the children enjoy being able to share their reading with you. The date of the next terms session will be shared in the new terms curriculum letter and we would love to see you there.

  • Roman Numerals

    Published 29/09/23, by Joshua Cialis

We see them in clock faces, the names of monarchs, and on the spines of book volumes. However, many of us don't know how to read or write Roman Numerals. Team Cialis spent their maths lesson on Thursday, exploring Roman Numerals. We noticed the similarities and differences between our base ten (arabic) number system and the Roman Numeral system of numbers.

The children were enthused by the learning and were keen to build their own hundred square using Roman Numerals. Some members of the class even undertook a lunchtime challenge to find out how to write the date in Roman Numerals.

    Lantern making workshop

We have a very exciting community event that RAPS will be a key partner in creating and celebrating. Starlings Support are designing a project with Cohesion Plus and Future Foundry – both Arts Council NPOs. The company have been granted Arts Council funding and together with the local community we will be hosting a light parade in Newington. More information about the event is to follow shortly.

During our weeklong event celebrating black history and culture, the children will take part in a series of workshops. All children will be given the opportunity to make a lantern sculpture/ hand lantern to showcase in the parade. The children will be making these with a specialist artist and will spend the day making these at various points in the week.

As you can probably imagine making 300 lanterns in a week with the children in years 1-6 is going to be a very challenging and time-consuming task, however we want all children to have the opportunity to showcase their work in the parade and this is where we need your help.

I am asking for parent volunteers to come in for the day to help the children in their class make the lanterns alongside their children. This will be a great opportunity for you to also be involved in the event and share what will be a wonderful day with your child at school and then walk proudly with your lantern in the parade.

The following dates have been proposed for the lantern making workshop.

    Year 6 - Team Baret/Williams - Monday 16th October

    Year 4 - Team Cialis - Thursday 19th October

    Year 4 - Team Chamberlin - Wednesday 18th October

Year 5- Team Dunell - Friday 13th October

    Year 5 - Team Pressley - Tuesday 17th October

    Year 1 – Tuesday 17th October

    Year 2 – Wednesday 18th October

    Year 3 – Thursday 19th October

Please note that Year 4,5,6 help will be required all day.

    Years 1-2,3 – half a day.

If you are able to help at all for all or part of the day, then please contact Mrs Smith

kelly-ann.smith@ramsgateartsprimaryschool.co.uk ASAP with your full name, child's full name, team name and availability for that day. I shall then get back to you with further information.

In the meantime, if you have any further questions then please do contact me ASAP.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Kind regards Mrs Smith

As part of their Topic, Year 4 have been learning about Earthquakes. We have learnt about why earthquakes happen, the impact of earthquakes, and how to safe if there was an earthquake.

As part of this learning, the children practised the Stop, Cover, and Hold on! drill used in earthquake prone areas. They also wrote newspaper articles imagining that there had been an earthquake.

Maybe you could ask your child: What's the relationship between earthquakes and tectonic plates?
