Brain workout – can you recall all your number bonds to 10?

You are going to be practising your addition again today. We are making it a bit trickier as we are adding 2 digit numbers to 1 digit numbers. You will find today's challenge attached below - the pdf is called Addition 2 and if you would like to do some more maths you can make up you're own ones on the pdf Addition Empty. Use the hundred square to help you – remember to count carefully!

Challenge: answer these word problems:
What is 6 more than 12?
What is 11 and 7 altogether?
What is twelve plus 7?

Today we are going to read the poem “Now We are Six” by A. A Milne - it is attached below. Look for the words that rhyme in the poem. Do you like this poem? Copy the poem neatly into your book and underline the rhyming words.

Then think of your own words that rhyme! If you enjoyed this task can you find another rhyming poem?

Todays sound is “ew” as in “chew the stew”
This is tricky because we can say it 2 different ways  - like “oo” as in blew or like “yoo” as in stew. But it's always the same spelling – ew. Practise these spellings with today’s focus sound ew:
1) chew 2) flew 3) newt

 

Listen out for the different ways we say “ew” as you read the words.

Then write a few sentences about what it is like learning at home. Are you enjoying it?

Focus sound: ‘ow’ “blow the snow
Practise these spellings 1) glow  2) show  3) crow

Today’s focus sound is ‘ur’ “nurse with a purse” This “ur” sound is usually in the middle of the word and it sounds the same as “ir” (“whirl and twirl”).
Practise these spellings with today’s focus sound “ur”:
1) curse 2) spurt 3) burn

Then build a sentence – What is it like learning at home. Are you enjoying it?

Today’s focus sound is “ow” as in “brown cow”. Be careful – this sound looks exactly the same as “ow - blow the snow” so you need to be careful when you read this sound to get the right pronunciation!  This sounds similar to the sound ‘ou’ (shout it out) so don’t mix them up! E.g. Broun? Brown.  Croud? Crowd.
Practise these spellings with today’s focus sound “ow”:
1) crown    2) allow   3) flower

Topic
I would like you to investigate stretchy materials and record which one stretches the furthest!
Look at the stretchiness_activity (pdf) attached. There are a couple of investigations for you to try. Compare a range of materials to see how stretchy they are such as ribbon, elastic, blu tac, string, fabric, playdoh, felt, slime, paper.

Remember to keep it a fair test by making size of the object the same. Try each material out and arrange them in order of stretchiness!
